Digital Storytelling - Photo stories and Mashups

Want to combine video clips, music tracks and photos to create multimedia digital stories that your students will love to watch and create? Mash-ups are a combination of multimedia files combined into one. FREE from Connect2Texas provider Amon Carter Museum of American Art - Making It Work!


Delve into the industrious side of America's history! Using photographs from the feature photography exhibition Work, explore how hardworking Americans put their talents, training, and determination to work. Livelihoods include a Forty-Niner, grape picker, mayor, miners, cowboys, painters, newsboys, bakers, perfumer, and sausage maker, among others. Art, ELAR, and social studies teachers and classroom and home school educators are encouraged to attend, although others may benefit.

Participants will receive digital images of the art objects used with the instructional activities discussed in the workshop.

The Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County in collaboration with other Northeast Ohio educational institutions is hosting an “Academy for Administrative Leadership in Technology (AALT).

The first session is scheduled for November 9th at the Dr. Harry E. Eastridge Professional Development Center in Valley View.  The program “21st Century Technology: Featuring 3 Techniques for Transforming Teaching and Learning for the Common Core” is FREE to all participating administrators.

Creating ePubs for the iPad

The iPad presents a wonderful opportunity to convert students’ work, writing, and original stories into the ePub format for easy sharing and portability. ePub provides many advantages over PDFs including re-flowable and resizable text for reading on just about any size of device. During this session, participants will learn the ins and outs of converting Word documents and PDFs into the ePub format using the free program Calibre. We will also discuss how to sync ePub and PDF files over to your iPad and which programs you can use to read them.

Free PD from the Amon Carter Museum in Texas - The Human Body in Art



Just over three quarters of the sculpture and well over half of the paintings in the Amon Carter's collection that are currently on display include at least one human figure, ranging from the realistic to the abstract. During this workshop, discover ways to engage students in conversations about complex issues such as identity, body image, and social change. Administrators, art teachers, classroom teachers, counselors, and home school educators are encouraged to attend, although others may benefit.

Motivational Time out for Educators and Others

Comedian/Author Brad Tassell's Motivational Time-out is the perfect thing to help any group relax and be motivated at the same time, all the while laughing like there is no tomorrow. Brad is a 23 year comedy veteran and Carnival Cruiselines top rated comedian in 2007 and 2010. But with his books on Character Education and Bullying he can get even the toughest crowd to grow in mind and spirit right along with the laughs. This program is perfect for a staff luncheon, or to lighten up professional development. It could be used as a great treat for maintenance staff or a secretaries group. If you are getting together for any reason this program fits. Brad will touch on many topics to think about and grow from, but always keep it light and funny. Everyone will go away refreshed and enlightened and thanking you for this treat!

1. I always start with a surprise magic trick. Ages 4-90 laugh every time. But there is a lesson in it too about the real magic in the world!
2. The song of life. It's a game, a song, and some silliness inbetween.
3. What is our biggest problem in the world? Teaching kids bad habits. We will talk about some with stories that will have them rolling in the aisles.
4. We will also touch on a zillion other subject to enlighten and tickle that funny bone.

Free - Free Informational Video Conference -Common Core Math Standards


Do you need a comprehensive overview of the “Common Core Math Standards” at each grade level?


math1.JPGThe Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center and Ky Leigh Davis, PhD have developed  a “Math Tool Kit” which contains mathematic resources at each grade level  (KDG-3).  This resource directly addresses the Common Core Standards at each grade level (K-3) via aFocus and a Flowchart.  Pretests pinpoint student understanding before instruction begins. Student Monitoring Charts allow a holistic view of the students’ proficiency and progression.Subtopic Scaffolding Staircases address the Flowchart items by chunking each standard for gradual attainment.  Unit Planning Models allow the teacher to chunk Flowchart items into units. And Lesson Plan Activities are directly linked to each topic in the Flowchart and aim to cement understanding of the standard via hands-on activities.
