Program Description
This session will provide detailed lesson plans for primary teachers on how to use visual arts-themed picture books and reading comprehension strategies to engage students in daily language arts instruction.
Program Format
Interactive and arts-based. The session begins with interactive dialogue about foundations of primary literacy and the fundamentals of visual arts. This will be followed by modeling and hands-on experiences in reading and the arts.
Objectives
- Learn about the CTL Artful Reading model
- Explore the relationship between the visual arts and literacy
-Experience examples of arts and literacy integrated lessons
- Discuss the role arts and literacy can play in teaching and learning
National Staff Development Council Standards to which this program aligns
Process Standards: Applies high quality, arts based reading materials to enhance creative and reflective classroom practice for the primary teacher.
