Body Image
Childhood obesity and its related health outcomes seem to have replaced eating disorders in public health forums and the media. In light of this, should we quit worrying about how children and teens view their bodies? Is worrying that you're fat a good thing if childhood obesity is so dangerous? Which issue should we support? This presentation will help you to encourage healthy lifestyle choices in children and teens in ways that don't lead to shame and anxiety about bodily appearance. Strategies for Using OAT and OGT Vocabulary
How does effective vocabulary teaching and learning impact student understanding of grade-level indicators and benchmarks? Are you familiar with the vocabulary that students will encounter on state achievement tests? Whether you are a classroom teacher or building administrator, it is crucial for educators to understand the impact that vocabulary usage has on student's academic content knowledge and skills. This training focuses on standard-based strategies that help teachers implement indicator vocabulary terms, indicator verb phrases, and testing terms into daily instruction.
The use of MVESCs "Indicator Sentence Strips" will also be demonstrated for building student vocabulary. Judy VanVoorhis Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Are you a Digital Native or a Digital Immigrant?
"Today's students represent the first generation to grow up with new technology. They have spent their lives surrounded by and using computers, video games, digital music players, video cams, cell phones and all the other toys and tools of the digital age." (Marc Prensky) Do your students have experiences with technology and digital resources in the classroom? Do you integrate the use of technology in teaching academic content standards?
This session focuses on what students should know and be able to do to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly digital world.... The National Technology Standards for Students: The Next Generation. Bobbie Howard
