Desktop Videoconferencing and Webcams

April 3, 2008 2:30 or 4:00pm

Desktop videoconferencing is one of the best kept secrets in video communication. Join NORT²H for a look closer look at Skype, ooVoo and other FREE programs you can use with a webcam and an internet connection. See how Skype has taken a leap above the rest but learn some of the risk factors that keep this as an emerging technology in K-12 education.

During this session, educators will identify instant messaging software that supports video, take a closer look at web cams and investigate software that will connect to traditional videoconferencing systems and multi conferencing units/ bridges.

The Lorain County Distance Learning Consortium (LCDLC) and the Northern Ohio Research & Training Technology Hub (NORT²H) is offering technology professional development over videoconferencing. The Technology Toolbox offerings for March and April are listed below. If you would like to sign up one of your schools please contact Paul Hieronymus at Phiero@leeca.org. Sessions run a hour in length and cost $50.00 per site

Back by popular demand! This videoconference presentation was offered first semester with a large number of partiticipants and a number of other sites wanting a repeat.
The Tool for Real-Time Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (TRAILS) is
an online tool which can be used to measure students' information seeking abilities. It is
a free, online test of multiple-choice questions assessing a variety of information literacy
skills appropriate for high school students. The assessment is funded by ILILE.
Participants will learn how to create and manage an online account on the TRAILS site
and how the assessments and their results can be used to help plan and evaluate
collaborative lessons aligned with content standards. Hear others discuss their uses of
the tests, as well. The new 6th grade TRAILS test will be discussed as well.
