National World War II Museum in New Orleans

GREETINGS EDUCATORS, INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNICIANS, AND ADMINISTRATORS!

My name is Alan Gauthreaux and I am the National Outreach Coordinator here at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Here at the Museum we have produced a series of Virtual Field Trip videoconferences that explore the history and lessons of WWII. These videoconferences include live interactions with Museum educators and hands-on analysis of primary documents, artifacts, and oral histories from the war years. They come complete with pre- and post-program curriculum materials, as well as documents, maps, and photographs to be used during each videoconference. In response to teachers’ requests, this year we have added a narrated “virtual tour” of the Museum’s exhibits.

Our current Virtual Field Trips (http://mail.esclc.org/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.nationalww2museum.org/education/teachers.html) include:

§ D-Day: The Turning Point in Europe
§ Iwo Jima and the War in the Pacific
§ Double Victory: African Americans in WWII
§ We’re All in this Together: The American Home Front in WWII
§ Unfinished Business: The Failures at Versailles and the Origins of WWII

And we will soon be offering:

§ The Warrior Tradition: American Indians in WWII
§ The End to Isolationism: The Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941

For professional development, we also have the following videoconference teacher workshops:

▪ Operation Overlord: The D-Day Invasion of Normandy
▪ From Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay: WWII in the Pacific
▪ Double Victory: African Americans in WWII
▪ We Can Do It: Women in WWII
▪ V for Victory: The Home Front during WWII

Here are a few comments from educators across the country about our Virtual Field Trips:

“Excellent, the kids love all the hands on artifacts and maps.”
Catherine N., Madison, NY

“The content was well organized and age appropriate. The activities that were completed the day before were a perfect warm-up activity for the virtual field trip. Mr. Gauthreaux did an outstanding job connecting to the students and making the presentation informative and fun”
Ben N., St. Francisville, LA

“Presented in a clear and concise manner, while engaging our audience.”
Traci D., Beechwood, OH

Last school year we presented more than 100 Virtual Field Trips to schools across the United States and Canada and our distance learning programs received an honor from the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration for their popularity.

Call me soon to book your Virtual Field Trip or for more information about distance learning from The National WWII Museum. We guarantee a worthwhile experience for students and teachers alike!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Brought to you by the National Liberty Museum! This presentation looks at psychological research, popular media portrayals, and teachers' experiences in examining gender differences in girls' and boys' friendships, schoolwork and play patterns. The implications for conflict resolution are explored as well as the developmental differences in expressions of anger and the roles girls assume. Character education strategies will be presented for educators to use in helping girls develop healthy relationships and prevent relational aggression.

The presentation will highlight the 5,500 e-books available, the 279,000 primary source documents, the classroom research activities, and other features which make the World Book Web a perfect fit for school at all levels. See how you can use these materials to differentiate instruction and get ideas on ways to use this resource at your school or in your classroom. You will have time to ask questions about each database. Please promote these two sessions on the new World Book INFOhio Resources. It would be a good way to get teachers exposed to them so they will want to use them for student research and their great extra features. The sessions are free and are after-school on October 15 and October 16. CEU's are given. Get a group together and have fun learning about these new tools!
