Effective Use of Textbooks in the Content Classroom

This program is a three-part series designed for middle and high school content area teachers. It introduces strategies that teachers can use to engage students in learning how to effectively use textbooks for learning, continues with modeling and planning for student reading strategies that effectively support content reading comprehension, and finishes with the structures and processes teachers can use to follow up on content reading assignments, holding students accountable for quality completion of content reading assignments. Participants will also implement "homework" activities associated with their teaching in between sessions.
