Frameworks for Understanding Poverty

Columbiana County ESC will be offering a 2 part professional develop training on “Frameworks for Understanding Poverty”. Below is brief description of the training. The training will be offered via videoconferencing Tuesday, Feb 10th and 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Ohio teachers will be eligible for CEU credit. The cost is $200 for the training and the deadline to sign up is Tuesday, Feb 3rd.

Poverty has a tremendous impact on how students learn, communicate, behave, and view themselves; most teachers are from middle class — with middle class values, attitudes, and expectations — and need advice and tools to better connect with students from poverty and help them succeed. This initial workshop, based on the book A Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D., provides an in-depth study of information and issues that will increase the participants’ knowledge and understanding of the poverty culture.
