Program Description
The National WWII Museum, "America's National World War II Museum," explores the African American contribution to our victory in WWII abroad and their struggles at home. Learn the WWII history of this often-forgotten population, receive classroom-ready lesson plans, and discuss teaching strategies with the museum's education staff.

Program Format
Museum education staff will review the materials in the Teacher Workshop packet, lead teachers through several of the lesson plans, and present video of the African American experience in WWII. Teachers will debate a series of discussion questions meant to show students the relevance of this history to their lives.

Teachers will explore the varied roles African Americans played during WWII.Teachers will compare and contract the African American experience of WWII with today's society.Teacher will discuss creative strategies for sharing this material with their students.

This session focuses on the following student standards: NSS-USH.5-12.8 ERA 8: The Great Depression and World War II (1929-1945)In addition, the following NSDCS standards apply as well.Context Standards:-Organizes adults into learning communities whose goals are aligned with those of the school and district.-Requires skillful school and district leaders who guide continuous instructional improvement.Process Standards:-Uses learning strategies appropriate to the intended goal.-Applies knowledge about human learning and change.Content Standards:-Deepens educators' content knowledge, provides them with research-based instructional strategies to assist students in meeting rigorous academic standards, and prepares them to use various types of classroom assessments appropriately.
