Teaching our students to be responsible global citizens who are good stewards of our planet is increasingly important in our world today. The youth of today have the power to affect change in our schools, our communities, and our world. Through interdisciplinary activities focused on real-world problems, we can actively engage students to make a difference.

This program will share educational resources that focus on climate change, environmentalism, ecology, etc. Project-based learning activities will be discussed, and technology projects in which students can participate will be shared. Making our schools "green" institutions, the importance of influencing our school and local communities, publishing of related content by students, global connections for collaborative activities--these topics and others will be discussed.

Students want to create content in meaningful ways and publish that content to a global audience. "Going green" provides authentic learning opportunities in which they can successfully do that!

Participants progress from initial awareness to a deeper understanding of the use of IVC as a powerful communication and learning tool. RSS Feeds Pack a Powerful Punch
March 18, 2009, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
RSS Feeds, called the “killer app” and the most important Web 2.0 tool by some
Web 2.0 gurus, can help you teach information skills. Librarians, learn how to
keep your library relevant and competitive and promote the development of
information skills by setting up feeds for teachers, administration and students.
Teachers, learn how to create a space for your class with relevant, up-to-date
information for projects or class discussions. Learn some small steps you can
take using the EBSCOhost databases and Google News searches to create RSS
feeds and deliver current, authoritative information on hot topics and projects to
your desktops daily or weekly. This session is designed for classroom teachers,
librarians and curriculum coordinators.
The session presenter is Melissa Higgs-Horwell, Distance Learning Coordinator,
South Central Ohio Computer Association (SCOCA).
