FREE Alcohol and the developing brain: How can we protect our elementary students?

Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Time: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET

Target Audience: Elementary School Teachers and Administrators, Curriculum Specialists

MAGPI is very pleased to partner with Hazelden Publishing to bring this unique opportunity! Alcohol and the developing brain: How can we protect our elementary students? Almost 20% of our nation's youth will have had their first full drink of alcohol before they complete 6th grade. Early alcohol use can have devastating effects on learning and academic performance, as well as increase chances of later alcohol addiction four-fold. This interactive presentation will help elementary teachers and administrators understand how they can use information about the developing brain to help young children make healthy and safe choices. Actual demonstrations of lesson plans featuring local elementary students will enliven this informative and practical presentation. Protecting You/Protecting Me, an evidence-based curriculum developed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and published by Hazelden, will be featured as an example of brain-based prevention in action!

Many thanks to the Bucks County MADD Chapter for their assistance in bringing this program to MAGPI schools.
