Obesity has become a nationwide problem among our children. The considerable growth of childhood obesity has led to the rising rate of childhood diabetes. This 1.5 hour program is designed to give school nurses an understanding of the symptoms, causes and consequences of childhood diabetes, as well as a detailed understanding of how to provide nutritionally balanced meals for children with diabetes. In part one of this program, Maura Lindenfeld, RN, MSN, CPNP will define type 1 and type 2 diabetes and outline their differences. Maura will also identify the goals of therapy for type 1 diabetes and list ways for preventing type 2. In the second part, Ashley Cunningham RD, LD, CDE explain carbohydrate counting as it relates to type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Cook Children’s Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
